The extension uses Chrome's storage API (chrome.storage.local) solely to store your preferences on your own device. This includes:

Your voice playback settings (voice selection, speed, pitch, volume).
UI preferences (such as light/dark mode and interface theme).
The current reading position of the last document read (so you can resume where you left off).

This data never leaves your device and is not synchronized or shared with any external servers.

3. Text-to-Speech Processing

All Text-to-Speech (TTS) processing is performed locally on your device:

The extension extracts text from the web page or PDF you are viewing using Chrome's standard APIs (activeTab and scripting).
The text is read aloud using Chrome's native Speech Synthesis engine (chrome.tts or window.speechSynthesis).
The text content of the pages you read is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted to any external servers.

4. Third-Party Sites and Services

When you use the extension on third-party websites or read online PDFs, their respective privacy policies apply to those web pages. The Read Aloud Extension does not interact with those websites beyond extracting the text on your screen to read it aloud.
